Lucien Denis Mocombe was born in Cap-Haitien, in the Northern part of Haiti. He attended Sainte Rose de Lima School in Le Borgne, College Notre Dame de Lourdes in Port-de-Paix, and College Canado-Haitien in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Throughout those years of schooling, he was always at the top of his class and considered a leader whom his classmates would look up to. At one point, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Brins de Pite” at College Notre Dame de Lourdes, until the Haitian Government forced him to shut it down.
In his quest for more knowledge and, in a certain way, also to challenge his young mind, in September 11, 1971, he migrated to Canada, where he graduated in Health Sciences from CEGEP de Victoriaville, Quebec, Canada. Though he was accepted at several Universities , he opted for the City of Lights where he attended and obtained his medical degree from the FACULTE DE MEDECINE XAVIER –BICHAT, UNIVERSITE PARIS VII, in Paris, France. There, he was granted a Silver Medal, an award which gave him the title of Laureate of the Medical School. After medical school, he had settled once and for all in the U.S., starting in 1982.
After a couple of years of surgical training, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx,NY. He, then, started a Medical Practice in Brooklyn while working as an emergency room physician at several hospitals. He is both a founding and Board Member of HIGHER GROUND IPA, LLC, a driving organization constituted of medical providers throughout the five boroughs of New York and Long Island. Dr. Mocombe has been a successful internist for the past 23 years and is loved and cherished by his patients. He has always believed that a person’s ultimate legacy is left through those lives that person has positively touched. Though we should all be thankful for our parents and upbringing, Dr. Mocombe feels that we all owe “something” to society in general. In that same vein, Dr. Mocombe has always been excited to sacrifice some of his time towards helping others.
Over the years, Lucien has been nominated for the Dean’s list, received: a Certificate of Recognition from BLACK UNITED FUND of NEW YORK, Certificates of recognition by the NEW YORK CITY Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in 2010 and 2011, and Physician of the Month Award from Wellcare of New York, Inc.
Lucien was a founding member and President of HOLY CROSS CHURCH HEALTH ORGANIZTION for many years and, in that capacity, he organized and participated in Health fairs throughout Brooklyn and made presentations on health issues in the community. It is in that spirit that he has been involved in several not-for-profit Medical organizations such as: Doc’s Tee Time, Chairman of the Advisory Board; Aesclepius Medical Society, Board Member; Association Of Haitian Physicians Abroad, New York Chapter(AMHE), Member at Large; Provident Clinical Society; and GHEP (Association of Haitians Studying in Paris). Like many others, he felt obligated to use his skills and contributed to the relief effort during the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake, under the banner of Aesclepius Medical Society, by going back to Haiti after 39 years away.
Those who know Lucien well can attest to the fact that he has always been dedicated and passionate in what he does and that he is fundamentally a genuine people-loving person, filled with generosity and gratitude. Lucien is well-known among his peers and in the community for his charisma and devotion to his patients.
It goes without saying that Lucien loves to travel and in his spare time, he watches tennis, soccer, hockey and football. He is a dedicated family man whose strength comes from the affection of his loved ones.
Lucien Denis Mocombe’s life has been a wonderful journey in which he remains dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.
